Community Care in Action: Preparing Together with Ecology Action

As a founding member of the Monterey Bay Area Climate Justice Collaborative (MBACJC), Ecology Action understands that true climate resilience starts at the neighborhood level. While large-scale infrastructure is important, our safety during a crisis often depends on the strength of our local connections. This is why we view disaster preparedness not as a solitary task, but as a vital act of community care.

The Resilient Central Coast initiative, supported by our regional partners, provides a roadmap for this collective approach. Their webinar series and digital resources move beyond simple gear lists to focus on how we can protect ourselves and our neighbors. In the Monterey Bay area, where wildfires and floods are a shared reality, preparing for the next storm is one of the most direct ways we can look out for the people around us.

Resilience is built when we take the time to understand local risks and share that information across language barriers and neighborhood lines. Whether it is knowing which families might need help during an evacuation or understanding how to access bilingual emergency alerts, these actions weave a stronger safety net for everyone. The training provided through these webinars empowers residents in Watsonville, Salinas, and beyond to transition from being reactive to being ready.

We invite you to explore the tools and recorded sessions hosted by Resilient Central Coast. By engaging with these resources, you are doing more than just checking off a safety list; you are contributing to a culture of mutual support. Taking these steps today ensures that when the next challenge arrives, we aren't just facing it as individuals, but as a coordinated and resilient community.
