Land Acknowledgment
The Monterey Bay Area Climate Justice Collaborative (MBACJC) operates on the unceded territory of the Ohlone, Costanoan, Amah Mutsun, and Esselen Peoples. For millennia, these traditional custodians have cultivated a sophisticated, reciprocal relationship with the Monterey Bay ecosystems we now strive to protect.
We recognize that climate change is not a standalone crisis, but one deeply intertwined with the history of colonization and the displacement of Indigenous people from their lands. Our work in climate resilience is rooted in the acknowledgment that there is no climate justice without Indigenous sovereignty. We commit to moving beyond words by supporting the restoration of Indigenous land management practices and honoring the leadership of the original stewards of the Central Coast.
